Safer social media for teens, explained simply

Most social apps were designed for scale. Tribela is designed for presence. This page explains what actually makes an app risky for a child, what to look for instead, and how Tribela is built differently.

  • Designed for teens and young people
  • Live in 40+ countries
  • Age-aware moderation
  • No ads. Free to use.

Six things to check in any app

01

Endless feeds

Infinite scroll has no natural stopping point, so “five minutes” quietly becomes an hour. Look for apps where the feed ends.

02

Autoplay

When the next video starts on its own, the choice to keep watching is taken away. Look for apps that require a tap.

03

Public scoreboards

Visible like counts turn every post into a popularity test. Look for apps where creating isn’t publicly scored.

04

Unclear audiences

Children often don’t know who can see a post. Look for apps that ask before publishing, not after.

05

One-size-fits-all moderation

A 10-year-old and a 30-year-old shouldn’t get the same environment. Look for age-aware defaults.

06

Ad-driven attention

When ads pay the bills, time-on-app is the product. Look for apps that aren’t monetising your child’s attention.

How Tribela is different

Your feed has an end. Videos don’t begin without you. Likes are not a public scoreboard. And before anything is shared, your child chooses exactly who can see it — Only You, Connections or Public.

Tribela is designed for teens and young people, live in more than 40 countries, free to use, and carries no advertising. It was incubated at Oxford University Innovation and works with K-ID on youth compliance and age assurance in the UK and Australia.

Questions parents ask us

What age is Tribela for?

Tribela accounts are for ages 13 and over, in line with our Terms. The App Store's 9+ rating describes content suitability, not the minimum registration age. Age-aware defaults mean younger members start in a more protected experience than adults.

Is Tribela free?

Yes. Tribela is a new independent app, free to download and free to use right now. There are no ads and no membership fees.

How is moderation handled?

Moderation considers age, context and level of risk. AI-supported systems work alongside human review, rather than applying one blunt filter to every user and situation.

Who can see what my child posts?

Every post is shared with Only You, Connections or Public. The audience is chosen before posting and can be changed at any time.

Who do you work with on safety?

Tribela works with K-ID on youth compliance and age-assurance requirements in the UK and Australia, and was incubated at Oxford University Innovation.

Is Tribela available on Android?

Tribela is live on iOS in more than 40 countries. Android is in development — you can join the waitlist to be told when it launches.
